Screenplay Development Course
The Screenplay Development Course is a specialized program in which short-film and animated screenplays are developed to the highest possible quality while the writer is taught the essential screenwriting knowledge needed for that process. The course is designed for screenwriters — as well as directors, producers and writers who write screenplays — who struggle to improve their screenplay and want to bring it to a more polished level.
Course structure and purpose
As part of the course, participants work on their own short screenplays, analyze structural problems and learn creative solutions. The course focuses on each participant’s screenplay and aims to reveal its existing potential. The participant completes the course with a finished screenplay developed to a professional standard.
What makes the course unique is that participants edit their own screenplays. To do so, they learn the screenplay elements they need, gain an understanding of why the screenplay should be developed in a particular way, and improve it under the mentor’s supervision.
Why is this program called a course?
Participants actively learn in order to improve their screenplays and complete practical assignments tailored to their scripts. When each screenplay is reviewed, it becomes clear what level of screenwriting knowledge the writer has, what they already know, and where their gaps are. Knowledge and practical exercises are then used to address those gaps.
For example, the scenes a participant has written may lack emotional changes, structure, or may simply be too basic. In that situation, special “scene writing” classes are organized to strengthen their scene-writing skills. These classes cover scene structure, different layers of a scene, artistic solutions, emotional changes and other aspects. The participant completes practical scene exercises, writes scenes, reads scenes and analyzes them. They also give feedback on their classmates’ scenes. As a result, they acquire scene-writing knowledge and apply it to their own screenplay, making it more impactful and professional.
Giving feedback on one another’s screenplays develops participants’ skills in both analysis and objective evaluation. This enables them to understand not only their own work, but the screenwriting process as a whole at a deeper level, while also enriching their creative experience.
